Tirrenia
is a modern seaside resort immersed in a vast pinewood, with
major bathing, sporting and leisure facilities. The broad
sandy beach, with numerous bathing establishments, is bordered
by a belt of dunes of considerable environmental importance.
The town offers numerous accomodation facilities ranging from
the luxury hotel to the campsite and the apartment, several
discotheques, bar and pubs.
At Calambrone is the mouth of
Navicelli Canal, one of the first waterways constructed by
the Medici. Here in 1860, Garibaldi landed to embark the Tuscan
volunteers for his Expedition of the Thousand. The event is
commemorated by a small obelisk.
A few kilometers to the south is Calambrone, a resort characterizedby
the presence of rest camps in the Liberty and Modernist styles,
suitable for social tourism. |
